November 2005 Music Booster Report

Todd Peitz, Band

The high school band is busy preparing for the holiday concert, which will be held on December 14th, at 7:30 pm in the PAC. We are currently holding auditions for chair placement, as well as preparing five tunes for the concert.

Two of the high school students were selected to participate in the Capital University Honors Band held this past weekend in Columbus. David Root was selected to participate in the Honors Band, which premiered the band arrangement of the music to the new Harry Potter movie, and Alexis Dunfee was selected to participate in the Reading Band. Congratulations to both of these students.

Several members of the high school band will be participating in a brass ensemble this holiday season. These students include Alexis Dunfee, Jason Drusbacky, Melissa Dodge, Ben Jones, and Cheryl Crosser. They will be performing around the community at local holiday events.

The 6th grade band continues to develop and grow as beginning players. They are excited about playing and being a part of the band program and work very hard each morning during class. There are 33 students involved in the band, and there is a nice balance of instruments across the band.

The jazz band has started weekly rehearsals, and will be rehearsing every week on Wednesday nights. We will be performing actively in the spring and as of the current moment; we have 30 students signed up to be a part of this exciting and completely extracurricular group.

Preparations continue for the District II honors band/orchestra/choir festival. We will be hosting that the weekend of January 14th 2005. The band clinician will be Dr. Tom Rohrer from Utah State University. Dr. Rohrer will also be coming in a few days early to work with the students of the high school to help prepare for the contest. This should be an exciting and unique event fro the high school students to benefit from.

Respectfully submitted,

Todd Peitz

Director Report

Date: 11-14-05

Orchestra continues to be off to a great and active start. Middle school and high school orchestra groups played their first concert of the year and did a fine job with their initial performance. Both groups have been working very hard in preparation for their respective Christmas concerts with the high school performance on Wednesday December 14, 7:30 p.m. at the PAC and the middle school performance being Tuesday December 20 7 p.m. at the middle school gym. Both performances are shared with the district’s vocal and band programs and are free to the public.

With regard to the elementary strings program, 6th grade students from Bataan, Jefferson, ICS, and Portage have been actively participating in orchestra for about a month. There are 9 violins, 2 cellos and 2 bass players and it looks to be a group that is very enjoyable with which to work.

Preparations for this years OMEA district 2 festival are well underway. Audition tapes are to be postmarked no later than November 23, and the recordings will be judged on Saturday December 3. District festival is on January 14, 2006 with the rehearsal being Monday January 9. This year’s orchestra clinician is Rico McNeela, orchestra director for the University of Toledo.

Today is my birthday, so please be nice to me!
