Director Report for January 9, 2006
Welcome back and happy New Year. Tonight as is obvious, I’m not here as I am attending to details for the orchestra rehearsal for this year’s District 2 high school music festival. Port Clinton has 9 orchestra students participating in this year’s event.
The high school string ensemble performed at elementary schools and middle school on December 22, the last day before Christmas break and will be performing again at Trinity United Methodist Church as entertainment for a ladies retreat on Friday, February 24.
Currently the high school orchestra is looking ahead to solo and ensemble contest which is Saturday February 11, 2006 and state orchestra competition which is March 3rd/4th depending on our assigned time with a pre-contest performance on Thursday March 2nd in the PAC at 7PM
Middle school and 6th grade orchestra students are actively engaged in classroom learning experiences of sight-reading and advancing skill level on individual instruments.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian Stitak Music Booster Meeting Jan. 9, 2006
Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands Tom Bixler
1. I want to apologize that I was unable to attend last month’s meeting. I do feel, however, that I can now tackle the college financial aid form and discover that I will probably need to find a part time job!
2. Overall, I was pleased with how the middle school bands performed at the Holiday Concert. Thank-you to those of you who attended and supported the ensembles.
2. The Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands have begun preparing music for their next concert which will be on Thursday, March 2 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the middle school. Each group will play 3 to 5 selections and possibly, play a couple of combined numbers.
3. Eighth grade band members have expressed an interest in performing in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event. Due to a schedule conflict, I will not be able to work with these students as much as I did last year. I have been scheduled to teach an extra general music class during the last period of the day.
4. There is a used set of chimes available from the Bellevue High School. This would be a nice addition to the percussion section at the middle school. I think the set will be available for around $500 (new sets are around $3000). If there is money available, I will try to work out a deal with Bellevue.
5. Heather Harris named principal horn in OSU Symphonic Band.
PORT CLINTON MUSIC BOOSTERS Minutes for Jan. 9, 2006
Vice-President Julie Walter opened the meeting.
Minutes from the Dec. meeting were accepted.
Treasurer’s Report (attached)- Marcia reported $3687.73 profit from the fruit sale. She said that there is $1700 for uniform fees and cleaning that is still owed. A letter was sent to those owing with little response. There was a suggestion that the fees need to be paid before the uniform is issued; we will talk about this more before the beginning of the next school year. Marcia reported that there was a charge made at Carter Lumber in the amount of $161.00 though the account has been closed. There was a question as to why the account had been closed without discussion at a meeting? The issue was tabled until we can find out if there are other projects that may warrant keeping an account open. Alice Root motioned to accept the Treasurers report, seconded by Brenda Fisher. Motion carried.
Instructor Reports (attached) were given by, Tom Bixler, the reports from Greg Fox and Brian Stitak were read in their absence.
New Business- Alice Root moved to authorize the purchase of a set of used chimes for the Middle School at the cost of $500. Funds to come from the instrument reserve fund. Brenda Fisher seconded the motion, motion approved.
Old Business- A sheet for volunteers to man the concession stand for Saturday’s District II Music Festival was sent around. Marcia asked for bakers of cookies and brownies. Phone calls will have to be made to get more help. There are 321 students expected to attend this year’s Festival.
Fund Raiser- It was discussed and decided upon that the fruit sale should be done in the fall again as it worked out very well. Carol Fox and Becky Zoeller will be the Fruit Sale Chairs. Jann Wozniak again reminded us that there will be no Auction next year. Some suggestions for fundraisers were: Savings Cards (this idea was not well received), Century Pride Fund Raiser- pizza, candy, stationary, etc., Cook Book, Lottery Tree-raffle of tree constructed of lottery tickets.
A motion was made by Alice Root to adjourn seconded by David Bloom. Meeting was adjourned.
