Choir Report- Gregory Fox

January 8, 2007

Both the middle school holiday concert and the high school holiday concert were two of the best programs in recent years. I continue to receive messages and e-mail notes congratulating the programs and the students. The Breakfast with the Arts program was well attended by our senior citizens and also very well received. Touch of Class wrapped up December with performances for the combined service clubs meeting of the Port Clinton Kiwanis, Lions, and Rotary clubs. A program for Portland House assisted living in Sandusky was canceled due to illness at the center and re-scheduled for February. A group went caroling on Saturday December 23 to sick or shut-ins.

As a result of an ensemble of TOC students who traveled around the community to sing impromptu a cappella performances at Krogers, Wal-Mart, Bassetts, and downtown Port Clinton, they were asked to perform on New Years Eve for the Walleye Drop. Two appropriate songs were chosen and eight students practiced 2-hours a day on Thursday/ Friday/ Saturday after Christmas to prepare for the Walleye Drop. It was an excellent experience having the students choose to rehearse and perform on their vacation time from school and represent Port Clinton High School.

Eleven middle school choir students have been nominated for the District II OMEA Middle School Festival at Magaretta High School on Saturday February 24, 2007.

Preparations continue to District Festival on Saturday January 27. Registration fees are $10.00 per student, and PCMB has paid for festival fees in the past.

Deadline for registration for District II solo & ensemble competition on January 20, 2007. Fees are $13.00 for solos and $17.00 for ensembles. Fees for competition at S & E are paid by the students.

The in/out accounts are being collected in January for the cleaning of the choir robes, and the purchases of the tuxedo shirts and necklaces in Touch of Class. The $300.00 bus bill should be paid from the TOC account.

  1. The low brass ensemble and the trumpet trio performed holiday classics at Walmart, Krogers, and the Ottawa County Court House. The low brass ensemble consisted of Jared and Jacob Fleming, Adam Howerth, Eric Reynolds, and Jon Pope while the trumpet trio consisted of Zach Auxter, Adam Sebastiano, and John Hartline.

  1. Overall, I was pleased with how the middle school bands performed at the Holiday Concert. Thank-you to those of you who attended and supported the ensembles.

  1. The Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands have begun preparing music for the next concert which will be on Thursday, March 1 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at middle school. The 7th and 8th grade band will, again, be combined and we have invited the sixth grade band to perform a few selections at the beginning of the concert.

  1. Eighth grade band members will be performing in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event on April 21. The event will be at Genoa High School. We are planning to have a trumpet and clarinet trio, a low brass ensemble, a flute quartet, and two percussion ensembles perform at the event. All members of the 8th grade band will be participating in the festival.
